United States Senator Larry E. Craig, Idaho is an honorary member of the National Board. He has designated the third week of March as National Safe Place Week Following the abduction of a young newspaper carrier, the community of Pocatello searched for a program that would help community members be more aware of the youth in their area. Originally started by the Bannock Youth Foundation, Safe Place eventually expanded to include several other projects and moved into area towns including Chubbuck, Downey, Inkom, Lava Hot Springs, American Falls, and Fort Hall. The project has recently returned to the BYF.

Blackfoot, ID Comes to Bingham County - 2004 What started as a Community Service project by a local business quickly became a Community Investment project by several area residents. To date, 36 businesses and public buildings have joined the network to offer youth a safe haven from harm. Student training began in the Blackfoot School District during 1994 and has grown to include the Snake River, Firth, and Shelley School Districts. Plans are to include the Aberdeen District in the near future. Fifteen local residents completed crisis training and police background checks in preparation to aide kids who contact Safe Place for assistance. Deby Barrington www.binghamcountysafeplace.com
